i just bought a card reader for my sdhc because the one on the computer could only read sd, and i put it in and it gets me no where, it is usb powered and i have window xpwhats goin on?
Sounds like your computer is not compatible with HC format. Check at your favorite computer store.
Does it require a driver? Does the card reader specify it can read SDHC type cards? Does windows detect the new USB device as a removable storage device? If not, try another USB port. If still nothing gets detected, then you must do it manually so the computer recognizes the device. Place the device in the USB port Hold down the Windows Key, and tap the Pause/Break key once. System properties window pops up. Click hardware tab. Click Device Manager. Look for any symbols with the yellow exclaimation mark ! Click on that for more info and how to manually force the computer to recognize it. You may need the Windows XP disk.
The SD card should have a movable tab in the corner to lock/unlock the card. If the card is locked, you can read from it, but not copy to it or format it. If that doesn't work, I would exchange it for a different card reader.
it could I even have not had any subjects with my older readers analyzing SDHC playing cards, yet that would not recommend you wont have subjects. Quote from source: SD and SDHC compatibility subjects The SDHC specification grow to be accomplished in June 2006,[25] yet via that element, non-prevalent extreme-means (1GB) SD playing cards (based on the older a million.x specification) have been already on the industry. the two styles of storage playing cards weren't interchangeable, becoming some confusion between purchasers. SD and SDHC playing cards and gadgets have those compatibility subjects : * gadgets that don't particularly help SDHC do no longer understand SDHC memory playing cards.[26] some gadgets can help SDHC by a firmware improve.[27] * SDHC gadgets are backward nicely matched with SD memory playing cards.[27] * some producers have produced 4 GB SD playing cards that comply with neither the SD2.0/SDHC spec nor latest SD gadgets.[28] * document equipment: SD playing cards are often formatted with the FAT16 document equipment, on an identical time as SDHC playing cards are often formatted as FAT32.[24] in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the two styles of playing cards can help different well-known-purpose document structures, alongside with u.s., ext2 or the proprietary exFAT as an occasion. * Microsoft residing house windows would desire a hotfix to help getting access to SDHC playing cards.[29][30][31]
