I was given one of those preformed ponds like you buy at lowe's etc.It has a 1/4 hole in the bottom and I am wondering if there is a goodway to patch the hole that will hold up. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Not really. I have one of them, and really the only way you can mend it would be from the outside of the pond. You can try to get some sort of rubber to place over the hole, and then seal from the outside, making sure no chemicals get in the inside of the pond. Go to your local home improvement center and ask for a cement type sealant that will not melt or damage the hard plastic. Honestly, the preformed ponds are fairly cheap. Remember if this is your first time owning a pond and if you plan to put fish in there, it CAN become very costly. We paid something like $75.00 for our complete set up, but after all that was said and done with fish, chemicals, pumps, decorations and so on...............it was well over $400.00! But, I must admit, I love mine and have had it for 5yrs and my fish are now huge!! (Koi's) :-)
since it's out of the ground, you're in luck!!... I fixed mine with silcone adhesive sealant.... some inside, some outside and when it was dry, on the outside, I covered it with several layers of duct tape.... still holding three yrs later.....I' m careful to not scrape over the spot on the inside with rocks or nets , etc....
My first try would to be to go to a swimmin pool suppy store and try and get a repair kit for a pool liner. Do this from inside the pool before putting water in it and let the sealant dry. The pond would have to be very clean for the adheasive to stick. The water would tend to push on the patch so if it was out side (underneath) the pond the water is working against you. Second choice would be a bicycle inter tube patch kit, same procedure.
