We just bought a new house. We put a new battery in the existing smoke detector on the wall (not electrically wired, just a battery operated one stuck to the wall) and it started beeping. We bought new batteries and tried again - still beeping every 30 seconds. We figured the smoke detector was old, so we bought a new smoke detector at Target. We put the new battery in it, mounted it on the wall, and it started chirping/beeping at 1:00 am this morning! We took it down and took the battery out. I just tried putting the battery in again and it is still keeps beeping! What on earth is going on???
