Question:

Ok to put scotch tape on ethernet cable?

I have a coax cable tv cable going all around the perimeter of a door, which is held in place by clips nailed into the wall which was done before I moved into this apartment.I just now added a 50 foot ethernet cable and it has to go right next to the coax in teh same place around the door. This won't cause problems with interference will it? And It wouldn't be a problem to scotch taple the two cables together in certain parts, right? I just don't want the ethernet cable to be loose.

Answer:

It should be ok, no interference or other issues with taping the two together
It is okay to tape the cables. I taped some of my cables onto the wall in my home to keep them off of the ground, and the cables are still working normally. Tape does not affect the performance of a cable.
The tv coax is shielded and the Ethernet cable is double twisted to minimize interference. As long as the cables are properly connected, running them together just around the door should be OK. The scotch tape itself won't cause any interference problems for you. But, before you do the tape job, connect your computer on the 50 foot cable and see if it works ok, since that's a pretty long cable. If it's OK, then do the taping and check again to make sure it works just as well. . . . .
It should be fine to do that, but I might use electrical tape instead, which you can get at a hardware store, because it is stronger than Scotch tape. Putting tape on the cables will not affect either the COAX, or the Ethernet unless there is something very wrong with the cables. I hope this helps, and have a great day!
It should be fine. Usually running data cables next to each other won't cause interference unless something is horribly wrong with one of the cables. Running any type of data cable next to a power cable, unless the data cable is shielded, is usually a bad idea due to EMI.
