Question:

Please clear my doubt.. Why toddler bed?

I am just wondering. ..Why do many parents switch to toddler bed inspite of the fact that toddler bed is the same size as crib? Infact, isn't crib more safer?

Answer:

With my first daughter (at 18 months) we didn't even use a toddler bed because we were lucky enough to find a twin size bed with a full sized rail and a full head and footboard. This way she couldn't fall out, and she would have fallen off the foot of the bed if possible. But, we were doing this to save a step and save money. The bed was pretty big so she still had a hard time getting in and out over the rail, we had to get her a step. With our 2nd we had to take her out of her crib because she was climbing out at 23 months, definitely not safer than a bed. We used a toddler bed with her because it still had 1/2 rail and if she fell out she wouldn't get hurt. However, we had a harder time getting her to stay in bed, I think because the bed was so opened.
Some toddlers get in the habit of climbing out of their cribs and the toddler bed becomes a safer option.
Toddlers will transition to a toddler bed when a crib becomes unsafe (climbing out), but the parents don't feel they are big enough for a regular bed. They aren't completely necessary, though. Another option would be to put a twin mattress on the floor (if you're concerned about falling). Most find that the toddler bed makes for an easier transition to a regular bed.
True, it's the same size as a crib. However, parent's don't switch from a crib to a toddler bed because a toddler all of a sudden needs more room.... They switch because their child is growing up, and is ready to transition from an infant bed, to one that resembles a grown-up bed. There's really nice difference between a twin size bed and a toddler bed either, except that the toddler bed is closer to the ground. Which is good, because that means the child can get in and out of bed on her own, plus if there is a roll-out, it's not going to cause any damage. And, a crib is only safe is the child is not trying to climb out every time he/she is placed in there. If your child is continually trying to get out of a crib, then no, it's not safer.
Our crib turned into a toddler bed. We just made the switch yesterday. The reason we had to make the transition was because she was climbing over the rail and falling to the floor. We were afraid she was going to hurt herself. If she weren't such a climber I would have kept her in the crib longer... but she's growing up.
