Well, despite the fact that I pay close attention to weight when designing bikes for a living, my personal opinion is that you shouldn't try to save weight there Although everything mentioned by Urban was correct regarding proper usage and stuff (very good answer, by the way) the small heft savings between a steel and an alloy steerer is outweighed (pun intended) by the safety margin you get when using steel.
2 - replacing the motherboard or entire PC is an option, but an expensive option1 - there's not enough metal left to solder to in the socket Don't attempt this 3 - good ideaI'd suggest a few strands of copper wire rather than aluminum foilIf you can slip the end of the wire between the remaining metal stub in the socket and the plastic wall, you should be able to tape the wire to the new battery It's an ugly, but cheap and effective solution There's just a tiny trickle of current through that wire, so excellent contact isn't neededor, 4 - run without the battery It's possible, especially if you leave the computer turned on.
