I went to file a police report on a former friend of mines, I explained the situation to the officers and they said its fruad my question is can I press charges on her and possibly have her do jail time and sue in civil court for the money she stole from me or do I have to pick 1 or the other? What the sentence for fruad in CA if convicted? How long do this whole process take?
You cannot press charges only the prosecutor can do that Yes you could sue in civil court If she goes to jail how would you collect? Time it takes? Depends on the court system How much time would she get? Depends on her past record, the amount of money stolen, how she stole it, will this friend claim in court that it was a gift? The prosecutor will have the answers to these questions
