Question:

Pumpkin Pie Dough Decorations - How to?

I cook all the time, but I'll freely admit that I've never made a pie before!!! Even though it's almost July, I'm making a pumpkin pie for my BFHe just started a new job, and I though it would be nice to make one of his favoritesAnyways, I made my own dough (I'm so proud of myself), and I have a few scraps left overMy grandmother always takes the scraps, makes shapes out of them (for instance, a leaf, for autumn), and places them on top of the pumpkin mixture for edible decorationI'm afraid if I place the dough shapes on the pie right before I bake it, it will sink (the mixture is obviously a bit runny)The recipe on the con pumpkin says to bake the pie for 15 minutes, reduce heat, and cook for another 35 minutes or soShould I wait until it's cooked for 15 minutes or what?? When should I put the dough shapes on there???Thanks in advance!

Yes, put the dough shapes on thenI do that tooAnother tip for the pumpkin pie is to wrap aluminum foil around the crust of the pie for the 15 minutes too.otherwise your crust could burnSo, when you take the pie out to remove the aluminum foil, you can add the crust shapes! Put it on a cookie sheet for easy in and out of the ovenIt helps if it spills over tooYou dont' get a smelly oven then! I make pies every Thanksgiving and pumpkin is always the one that goes quickly!
