Question:

question about gymnastics event- floor?

ok so i was watching routines on floor and i was just wondering, because it seems highly unlikely people could do the things gymnasts do on regular floors, so are the floors used for floor event like springy floors?

Answer:

yeah they have more bounce to get more height. if you watch them you can see the floor sink and then come back up when they jump.
yes. usually they have springs or sponges underneath to give the gymnast more height.
Gymnastics floors have springs in them. They are about 4 tall and they cover the entire bottom of the floor. =]
Yes, the floor is actually pieces of plywood with springs or foam blocks underneath. There's a 1-inch foam pad on top of the plywood, and then a carpet on top of that. A spring floor does help the gymnast bounce a little higher, but not really that much. Back in the 70s and earlier, gymnasts competed on thin foam mats, or even on a plain gym floor... and they were doing some pretty amazing tumbling skills even then. The main purpose of the spring floor is to prevent injuries. When the floor has a little more give, it's not as hard on the gymnast's joints when they tumble.
