Question:

Reasonable price to service your transmission?

I already asked this but put to flush the transmission oilour something like that instead of getting the transmission serviced. So the question is what is a reasonable price n what the heck is the difference between a $90, $100 $120 transmission servicing.?

Answer:

Sandwhich17, I am going to be quite frank about your question. I am not into the whole flush anything offered by a lot of repair shops. And let me explain why. The auto repair business has suffered some losses recently. Mostly because American and foreign cars have been built a lot better than they used to be. At one time (when I got into the repair business) cars could be expected to need a valve job, or major repair about the time the odometer hit the 100 thousand mile mark. Today's cars are built much better than that. Thanks to better technology and synthetic fluids, our cars are going 100 thousand miles without any major repairs. In response, many repair shops are offering services never mentioned in the past. Transmission flushes, Power steering flushes, Fuel system flushes. Just to name a few. And these services generate a lot of cash for the garage. After all, there is no diagnosis involved and the material is cheap. But let's ask your manufacturer. Since you didn't say what kind of car you own, I am going to select a 2008 Ford Escort. Do you know Ford doesn't recommend a transmission service until the car reaches 100 thousand miles? It never mentions a flush of any kind. How about your owner's manual? Does it suggest a flush at any point? Or does it recommend a service at a certain point? See what I am getting at? Follow your owner's manual and you will do well.
