How to replace an automatic Transmission on a 2006 Volkswagon Jetta 2.5L
This is the catch 22 with that year VW. You have to take it to a mechanic in the end. Its just that simple for a car that no chiltons or haynes manual can let you know the exact spec settings for a car that needs vw tools to replace that transmission and the books wont tell you. You can try but without experience in a a world where you only got once chance to get it right and a procedure that demands more then a ball park setting to it. Yea its a small car and looks easy but the problem lies in the price of the special tools and the fact that swap for anything but the exact transmission would be really hard. Also rebuilding the transmission yourself will not really work with a vw that new because they dont sell the internal parts right on line in brand new form and most vw mechanic shops will increase the price of those parts enough to make it no sense to do it your self because you would have to buy the special tools and the retail non whole saled parts which would exceed the price of just having them rebuild it themselves. Now being that the engine in that one is powerful and upgraded transmission parts would be the order of the day. The mechanic will be putting the same cheap parts in there that broke in the first place and you know that wont go very far. When did the first transmission go out. Ive been reading on those vw's and thats about 80000 miles or so some with only 40 thousand. So there is no real fix right now. Its like a 2003 porshe boxer is with the engine heads melting.
