Question:

S-ATA Data cable adapter?

I have a new DVD drive, and when I went to install it, realized that I have a 4-pin CD_IN slot, and the S-ATA data cable that came with the drive is 7 pin on both ends. Does anyone know if I can buy an adapter, and if so, where? I've looked around a couple of places, but with no results.

Answer:

4-pin CD_IN shouldn't be connected. It isn't necessary. You should connect the data and power cables.
The CD_IN slot is for audio only. The data cable is for connecting to a SATA port. You also require a SATA power connector. Unless these are already on your motherboard you can not use it.
The 4-pin CD_IN connector is for connecting to your sound card in order to use the drive as a traditional CD player (rarely used nowadays because digital playback has taken its place). The drive's main function will be intact through using just the SATA connection (connected from your drive directly to the motherboard). In other words, there is no such thing as a 4-pin CD_IN to 7-pin SATA adapter, as they are different things entirely. Connect the drive to your motherboard with the SATA cable, and attach a power connector to it as well. If your PSU does not have a SATA-specific power connector, you will need to buy an adapter.
