Does anybody think that the safest way to switch off a LCD monitor is to directly turn off the main power supply instead of pressing the power button on the monitor first;followed by turning off the main power supply? My one year old samsung LCD monitor 225BW recently had humming buzzing noise problems. This problem was temporarily solved when the power button was pressed twice to on off it. This problem was permanently solved by Samsung as there is still warranty.I guessed that perhaps the wear tear that comes with the pressing the off button on the LCD monitor may have resulted in the humming buzzing noise.
Nope I dont think that using button caused your buzzing problem. I have had no problem with my LCD monitor and we always/only use the power button. I would think that turning off the power supply would become a pain in the butt and could also cause your computer problems too, if done at the wrong time by mistake. Our LCD is over 1 year old and no buzzing and we have a 5 year old who used to love to push the power button or any button for that matter. I think it was probably some type of internal problem.
you can always put it in stand by or hibernate instead of shutting the screen off and turning the system completely off.
OK, most monitors don't need to be shut off when shutting down the computer, they go into sleep mode on their own. This means that they will turn on automatically when you turn your computer back on. This may save you the ware and tear on your monitor. I never shut mine off and just let it go into sleep mode. To see if your monitor will do this, shut down your computer and give it about 10 minutes and if it doesn't shut down then you don't have that option and will have to shut it down manually. For your sake I hope you have that feature. It comes in handy when your in a hurry and the button never gets worn out. The only times I shut my monitor off is when we have a severe thunderstorm or when I am not going to be home for several days. Give it a try. What can it hurt, at least you will know that you have options. Good luck.
maybe I shouldn't answer this since I never turn mine all the way off. I just shut down the PC and let the monitor power down to its sleep mode. In any event, I don't think there's any way that using the main power supply could be better for it than its own power button. That just seems very unlikely. Have you tried to Google the monitor (and maybe the problem it had) to see if others have said anything about it? Maybe it was a result of a design flaw, or just even a bad monitor you had. If you are concerned about it I think it would be better to not shut the power off on it at all and just let it go into its power-down (sleep) mode. _
