Hope the boat isn't aluminumA dc machine will not do it you will need an ac machine to weld aluminumAnd 1/4 aluminum will need around 200 amps which puts you in a 220 volt power range machinestick with a Miller, Hobart, Thermal Arc, Esab, or Lincoln machine if you want to be happy with it(32 years welding)
