Question:

Standard height of bathroom vanity light?

Standard height of bathroom vanity light?

Answer:

You will get answers from between 6'8' and 7'. Usually 6'8' is typical, but it can depend on the size of the mirror. I always set the light at 7' (unless the light has glass globes that face upward).
There is really no 'standard' It depends on if it is over the medicine cabinet or if it is sconce type on the sides of the mirror. Either way you need to take the size of the light and globes to be sure it will not interfere with the medicine cabinet door. Usually with scone lights I have the customer decide the height. Depends on the light design. Think three steps ahead !

Standard Vanity Height
I really don't know of any hard, fast rule governing the height of vanity lights. The idea is to cast a shadowless light upon your face so a person can see all parts of his/her face when shaving, putting on makeup, etc. To this end, the light should come in at an angle no steeper than 45 degrees. For most vanities, this height would be between 6.5 to 7 feet.
