Question:

sunbaby cloth diapers -- do they need a waterproof cover or, is the diaper all you need?

Im looking at buying sunbaby cloth diapers. Dappi cloth diapers I have seen, have the diaper, a plastic or, upgraded velcro or snap fastened mesh lined outer diaper, and then the inserts. Sunbaby only has the insert + diaper. Does this mean they:1) Dont require any additional outer protection (like the others which offer the mesh lined covers for the cloth diaper)2)Dont offer an outer cover but still need an outer waterproof cover that can be found in a generic ‘fits most brands‘ version? Also, what is your thoughts about sunbaby brand and experience.Thanks!2)

Answer:

Sunbaby brand is a 'pocket' style nappy- the outer part has a layer of microfleece and a layer of polyurethane laminated polyester with a 'pocket' inside it where you put the insert. Polyurethane laminated fabric or PUL is waterproof but breathable, it's a good bit better than using PVC plastic to protect the clothes. Microfleece wicks the moisture away from your childs skin, if you can feel it wet when you touch this layer it is HEAVILY wet, a light to moderately wet nappy you will feel the microfleece as 'dry' when you touch it. The insert is the part that actually holds the urine when your child wets the nappy. You don't need anything else with a sunbaby nappy- they are designed to be faster drying than a true 'all in one' yet still have the same ease of putting on as an all in one does.

You don't need anything else. The diaper itself is waterproof. I have them and like them.
