Question:

Sweet iron vs. Copper?

i know sweet iron makes horses salivate more(bit wise) but what about copper...ive seen some bits with french links and the links r copper...does copper make horses salivate too or is it just for looks or wat?

Answer:

It is supposed to taste good and encourage salivation. I use both copper mouth and sweet iron bits.....I hope they actually do what they are supposed to do, I assume they do, since my horses seem to be happy in them!
Copper will make a horse salivate almost as well as sweet iron. I believe that copper is better if you like a nice clean shiny bit, sweet iron is supposed to rust, that oxidation is what gives sweet iron its taste. So in short its 6 to one half a dozen to another. I own both kinds. I like sweet iron better, but that is my preference.
That's the theory, and just to confuse things I have sweet iron bit with copper inlays or rollers, all supposing to encourage a slobbery soft mouth.
