Answer:

Using fuel with the proper amount of detergent factor is usually enough. Chevron helps. Most FI problems are due to clogging up of the AIR side of the engine, and not to the FUELside of the engine. Since you give no type of car, I am just guessing. Using the fuel treatment will only help keep the injectors clean. Fuel MIXTURE, which is controlled by the AIR side is not affected by this. Most problems are actually due to a dirty throttle body and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. Cleaning these items out with Gum-out spray a few times a year will help more than the $85 treatment ever will!! Jetronic cleaner, from Germany, is the best out there.
to tell the truth, it is rare that a injector cleaning will really help out. i would try a additive just because its cheaper but if you have no issues while driving then i wouldn't worry about it.
I think that it is very expensive the dealer wants to charge that amount of money. You can use for cleaning for long time a gas additive called ferox it is good I use in my old car and save a lot of money in gas. I am according with Robert M, because I had this kind of problem. I think that him has the best answer, with your permissions.
