Question:

TV Remote Control question?

I just bought a new LCD TV, can I program the TV's remote to control my other devices, such as dvd player?

Answer:

Of course you can, as long as its a universal remote. Buy one and follow the directions that come with it.
Check the owners manual.
No, You need a universal remote. Often comes with comcast and other cable companies. But if you dont have that youll need a universal remote. Usually they have buttons on them showing they can control multiple devices. Buttons labeled TV, Cable, DVD, etc.
If the remote that came with your TV has universal capabilities the answer would be yes. If it doesn't the answer is no. But if you use a cable/satellite box and their remote control the answer is probably. I ran into a similar problem a couple of years ago when I purchased an RCA television for my kitchen. The RCA remote would only control the TV but my Comcast cable remote will control everything, including the TV, DVR/VCR/DVD and a qualified audio/video receiver to boot. If you receive your TV programming off-air you should buy a good quality universal remote and use it for normal programming. You will still need the original remote for all other features contained in your TV such as sound and picture quality, timers, etc.
