i would liek to know if it would help the quality of videos i take if i upload them straight from my camera to my pc or use a card reader to get them off
No difference. The data is already stored on it and is unaltered by the method you upload it to the computer.
The quality won't change, either way the file will end up on your computer. It is important to note that it is MUCH faster to use a card reader to transfer files (not sure if this enough incentive for you to buy one instead of transferring directly from your camera).
