Question:

upside down PSU and SATA power cables?

I have a case that mounts PSU on the bottom. I find that I have to twist the SATA power cables 180 degrees to connect to the hard drives. Any tips? I was thinking maybe mounting hard drives upside down.

Answer:

This is a very late response but it might help someone. I just dealt with this problem on my build. It's pretty easy to flip the connectors over. At least it was on my Cooler Master power supply with modular cables. The wires are not soldered; they are just pressed into place and the metal contacts inside the terminals press into the wires and make connections. To modify them, pry the plastic back caps off the Sata connectors, pull the wires straight out, flip the connectors over, press the wires back carefully until they seat (into the same terminals), and pop the back caps into place. Do one connector at a time so you don't lose track of the wire orientation.
Upside down drives would work, but they're not likely to fit properly with the existing mounting holes. I ran the power cable to the top drive and worked down from there, so it didn't require twisting. I've also used only the last connector on two different cables. There's nothing wrong with twisting the connector wires, assuming they aren't under tension after installation.
There is no problem with twisting the cables. I have one where the power and data cables are coiled to take up less space. You can purchase 90 Deg data and power cable adapters.
If the hard metal bit of the hard drive is pointed up, it's in right.
