Question:

Wearing contacts in organic lab?

So I have a lab coming up soon, and the problem is that it requires that no contacts should be worn in the lab. However, I've only worn contacts.. and I don't have glasses. My eyesight is also pretty bad if I take them out too.I'm doing a thin layer chromamtography lab and I will be using dichloromethane, and 0.5% glacial acetic acid in ethyl acetate. Do you think if I keep my chemical fume hood nearly closed most of the time, I won't be effected that much by the vapors? I'm not using a large volume of reagents for the lab, and I don't know how strong the vapors are.

Answer:

Check with your rink on its policy, just in case. I don't know if this is still true, but some rinks had issues with indoor and outdoor usage. Outdoor use usually ends up with little gravel, etc in the wheels. This gets tracked into / onto the rink. The sand / gravel tears up the surface.
Warning!!! Good luck!
