I'm writing a story (I promise) and a few of the characters fall into depression/get overwhelmed by stress, one gets an eating disorder, another runs away, and the last one starts cuttingI haven't cut myself before except for paper cuts but I was wondering what a few things you can cut yourself with that are around the house?I would have used a knife/scissors but the character's mother is very clean and they don't own a lot of things, so it would be too noticeableI didn't want the character to just get them out of nowhere, either.
Use unsalted butter and heat to seal the surface of the ironThen, cook with olive oilUse hot water, no detergent, to clean.
There is a ton of conflicting information on care and storage of cast iron cooking pots, dutch ovens and pansI like cast iron and use it a lotA spritz of Pam and a splash of ordinary cooking oil is the start of all usesIf lard or butter is wanted it can be addedOlive oil is easy to scorch but can be used if care is taken When ready to clean the ci, wipe out as much as possible with a paper towel or ragThis effort may be enough to have the ci ready for the next use if this will be in the next day or two If used to cook strong flavors like fish or onions, I will boil a little water, dump it and oil the ci lightly For longer term storage, boil some water in the ci to ensure that all salt is dissolvedDump the water and warm the ci to dry it completelyWhile warm and the pores of the iron are open from the heat, add some cooking oil and wipe the ci down with a paper towelIf too much oil is applied it will get gummy and stickyBoil some water in the ci to get rid of storage oil and it will be fully restored for useMy sister will get angry if she reads this because her mantra is never let water touch her ci, but this has worked well for me for many years.
Wash it out using a dishcloth, dry, and put away if you are using it again in a day or twoIf you don't intend to use it for awhile lightly coat it with cooking oil using a paper towelIt's really that simple, some folks seem to want to make it a full time jobDon't understand, been using cast iron almost exclusively at home for 40 years and have never done anything else to any of my pans, they're almost as good as the chemically made non-stick pans.
Break a mirrorRazor blades Steak knife Sharp rocks Broken glass Safety pins Aluminum foil Sharp plastic Wood Id say in this story situation, it would be best to go with broken glass or a broken mirrorhave them get angry, and break a window, a bottle, Or of it's a girl, she can break her mirror in her compact from her make up bag, and the clean mother wouldn't even notice.
