What are the advantages/disadvantages of modular/manufactured homes?
Advantages- built just as well or even stronger than on-sight built due to having to be transported and lifted with a craneCan be assembled in one dayAll work is done inside a climate controlled factoryThis does not allow your lumber to get wet and cold and expandDisadvantages- Like another member said, not too many people really know how they are built and see them to mobile home standardsThis will bring the market value down due to decreased knowledge of the modular homeSometimes they can be built with cheap quality materials like wiring, plumbing, etcIf I was you I would talk with the company and see if they use the schedule 40 plumbing, the 12 ga romex, soldered water pipes or the maniblock system, top quality spouts and faucets, etcDont go for whatever is cheap because you do get what you pay for.
