The engine idles and runs rough and I smell gas when I start it.
yes, the rear wheels have to slide sideways to some extent. This cause tire wear, and also wear in the street material. But that is true in any vehicle, to a lesser extent. Even a single tire has to slide a bit to turn. .
The most common reason for the check engine light to come on is that you don't have enough oil in it. Turn it off and check that first. Runnning rough could be spark plugs or plug wires (again, common reason).
There's about 500 things that can turn the light on. You have to get the trouble code from the computer then go from there.
if an advanced auto or autozone is near ya,just go there and have them use the code puller they have.it wont cost anything and will tell you exactly what is wrong.it can be bad plugs,bad throttle position sensor,bad o2 sensor,or something else entirely.the obdii system will tell you
