the front axle is that part which supports the two front tires. Depending on whether the car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive will answer the question of how much it will cost to repair the front axle.
Virtually no car has a 'front axle' to speak of, by definition it isn't necessary with independant front suspension. You may have a front crossmember, a piece of pressed steel spanning between the two front suspension units. Can you give more info as to what this is about? And a make model of car would help.
The front axle is what hold your front tires on your car. It usually is split in two for better articulation. If you have front wheel drive, you should have a transaxle and that can be costly to repair. Your axle should not need to be repaired unless you broke it and if you did, you tire would come off. It would not be drivable. What makes you think your axle needs to be repaired?
