Question:

What is an axle-back when referring to exhaust? Is it the same thing as a muffler?

Looking to get Civic si axle-back on my r18 ex. Sorry for noobness.

Answer:

Probably a muffler and tailpipe tip on your car I think. Maybe the pipe in front of that too. Lots of older/rear wheel drive cars have the muffler in front of the axle. Just a tailpipe would cover everything over and behind the axle on those. What's with all the thumbs down? A lot of D-A's here today I guess.
The muffler and the tip. Catback is from the catalytic converter back.
Old term, 'from the axle back'. That front pipe and 'Cat.' run hotter and so rust slower, so it's common for that rear section of pipe, muffler, and tail-piece to rust out first.
