one in all my pals had geothermal put in on his new homestead a pair years in the past. It heated in wintry climate and cooled in summer season. It on no account somewhat did the activity. It uses the heat content of the earth as the heat source instead of the air. At levels below a meter or so, the temperature of the ground is very stable. So you can use that as a source of heat for a heat pump instead of the air, because, as you know, the air can get very cold and can become unusable as a heat source. Geothermal heat pumps come in two general varieties, open and closed. An open system is essentially two wells, with warm water from the earth being drawn in as a heat source and the cooled water being pumped back into the second well. The closed system has many meters of pipe buried underground, so the refrigerant can absorb the heat from the earth without contacting it. This also works in reverse, as any heat pump does, to supply cooled air for air conditioning.
