Question:

What is the best way to store baked goods?

I'm an avid cook/baker but I have a small problem with storing my baked goodsCookies are okay as I store them in an air-tight container in the pantry (room temp.) although I have a problem with cakes, slices and muffins as I store them the same way, but they always develop this damp unpleasant and soggy taste which is horribleIt can develop after as little as one dayHow can I store my baked goods so that they stay 'fresh' and tasty?

Answer:

It all depends on how long you plan to store the baked goods I always store cake, brownies, and the like in my refrigerator - I prefer to put the cake on a plate, then cover in with a big mixing bowl (if the leftover cake will fit) over the cake resting on the cake plateThis acts as a seal around the cake (good for keeping other fridge odors/tastes from permeating your baked goods), and putting the cake in the fridge helps keep it moist without getting soggy or moldy And if you are asking about long-term storage, always be sure to wrap the baked goods snugly in freezer paper or aluminum foil (with parchment paper between the food the foil) - then place the wrapped baked goods in a freezer bag, just to be sureSome people swear by the double-bagging method, of placing the baked goods in a freezer bag, gently pressing out the air sealing the bag, then rotating the bag placing it in a second freezer bag to prevent freezer burnBe sure to mark the freezer bag with the date - and I never keep baked goods in the freezer for more than a month or two Hope this helps, best of luck:-)

Aluminum foil bowls are dangerous.Pretty sure they release all kinds of toxic nasty that you breathe in when you smokeYuckkkyyI mean it would work, yeah, 'cause I've done it, but it's not ideal.
