The house I just bought had wired smoke detectors none of which worked, now the question is, what is better wired or battery? to me the wired would fail in a fire that's my thought, however I have been told they are better, any advice??thanks!!
no problem. buy a standard 8x8x16 cinder block, some heavy steel cable to securely tie the cinder block to, a pulley system and a hand crank. devise the pulley and crank system so that you can use the hand crank to pull up the 30 lb cinder block about a foot or two, then release and the cinder block falls and rushes things with it. It can't be any simpler. that technology's been around for the last 3000 years, surely you can build one.
Yes, a Sawzall (a.k.a. reciprocating saw) has the power to cut through cast iron. Keep in mind it's not the saw that cuts, but the blade. Make sure you use a blade that is rated for cast iron. I'm assuming you plan on trashing the cast iron sections. If not, read further. Cast iron is a brittle metal that can crack easily with too much force or vibration. Let the saw do the work and exert a steady, gentle pressure on it. Even if the pipe is trash, a gentle pressure will actually get you through the pipe quicker than if you bear down on it. Let the tool do the work.
