If the school wanted you to be on those websites, the filter wouldn't block them. When you're using the school's computers, you should be expected to follow their rules. Wait until you get home to access those sites.
Not necessarily! There are two types of smoke detectors. One detects the presence of smoke using a visual detection system. The other type detects the presence of certain byproducts of combustion using an ionization detector. A visual detector does a poor job when there's little smoke and an ionization detector does a poor job with small but smoky fires. The best detectors use both visual and ionization detection methods. I'd replace the current one with a good dual-detector model to get the best advance warning on any fire.
