Go to a tire store, Les Schwab is a good one, and ask for an aggressive tread suitable for snow, and I would also ask for studded tires. Studded tires will have to be removed after the snow seasoncheck the local laws. I run studded tires on my Dodge 2500 2 wheel drive, and it makes all the difference on snow and ice. As for installing tires yourself, unless you have all the tire changing equipment, it is a back breaking process! Schwab charges something like $20.00 to mount, balance, and install each tire, and it is well worth it.
