Question:

what's the difference between granite and quartz as far as kitchen counters go?

I think quartz costs less but what are the other advantages and disadvantages?

Answer:

The answer is Denser. There is nothing wrong with the question or the geology professor. To find the answer you must look in the lab manual. Manual clearly states: Quartzite is denser than quartz , and like quartz has a harness of 7 This answer is hard to find anywhere online. Wolfram alpha will give you the incorrect answer as well.
this comes straight from lab book minefinder, and helping people does not cause unemployment you dense ******* prick. not alot of jobs for GEOLOGY.
I normally don't like helping out on blatant homework questions as it encourages cheating, and that will make you unemployable. In this case there is no correct answer to your question, so I will offer some advice. The fundamental difference is that quartz is a mineral, and quartzite is a rock composed of many grains of quartz. A, B, and C are definitely incorrect. That leaves C as a possibility, but not all quartzite is foliated. Poorly written question...perhaps your teacher needs a refresher in geology.
