What are the main indicators that tell you if a motorcycle tire is unsafe, and still has good tread? There are no cracks in the tires, however they have sat in inside storage for 15 years. What should I look for that would tell me that they are unsafe?
A catalytic converter is a device used to reduce the toxicity(carbon dioxide is an example of what your engine produces as a bi-product of combustion) of emissions from your engine. So if that is not working or working properly it means that the emission coming out of your car is not filtered. Price for a catalytic converter ranges from $89 to $200 from Napa auto-parts then again you need to have a shop install that for you or you could save a bundle if you have tools at home, you can do the install yourself.
For the best answers, search on this site shorturl.im/axBj8 That's much higher than I paid to have the catalytic converter replaced on my Toyota a few years ago, before platinum prices went up. It might depend on exactly how much other work is being done. Anytime I see a price that high, I start thinking about getting a second estimate. You might also see if there is a third party converter that would cost less than the VW one but still meet EPA requirements.
Not only cracks in the side walls, but in between the treads.
You don't have to look for anything. If they are 15 years old they are unsafe. Buy new tires.
All the major tire companies say 7 years is the absolute max for tire life and that even after five years you're basically playing Russian Roulette every time you drive them unless you have an expert dismount and inspect them. Buy new ones. Since tires can be one or two years old when you buy them and they may have been on the bike for awhile before they went into storage they could be pushing 20 years. Taking a header on a bike because of a blown tire can be deadly.
