indoor plants do very well w/artificial light -- outdoor plants can be either full/partial natural sunlight.
Plants grow really great in fluorescent lighting area.Take my word for it.

If articifial light is used properly and you use grow lights (which emit light in the spectrum plants need most) a plant cannot tell the difference between photons coming from the sun or from a tube or bulb. Outdoors a plant might do better but it's not necessarily because of the light. They may get better temperatures or fresher air or proper moisture, etc.
