Question:

Whats wrong with my steering wheel.?

So i have a 1991 honda accord LX. My car is perfectly aligned. but oddly my steering wheel is turened about 45 degrees to the left as drives straight and have no probles driving it what-so-ever. It has been in an accident before (only 1). Was hit on front passenger side, which left the wheel dented inward at the top. I was told i need to replace a few parts, and got a new hub bearing, steering knuckle, lower and upper control arm, and afterwards my tire was straight like it was before the only difference was the steering wheel. Could it be the whole steering gear that needs to be replaced? or the rack? what could the problem be?

Answer:

the mechanic is right, it won't hurt a thing.
Actually, the ball joint connections, tie-rod connections, and stablizers keep it all intact. Once it is lowered, you should not have to worry.
not perfectly aligned alignment job wasnt done right if steering wheel turn while driving it poor work done
wen they did the alignment they didn't center the steering wheel. that's one of the first steps of doing that job. so i would go back and tell them to get the steering wheel centered.
First you have to find out if the steering wheel is off or the alignment here's how. Turn the wheel all the way to the left to full stop. Now turn it all the way to the right to full stop count the number of turns the steering wheel makes to go from full left to full right Turn the wheel left half the number of turns. At this halfway point the steering wheel should be centered. If it is and the wheels are not pointing straight it is the alignment. If the wheels are straight at this halfway point but the steering wheel is not the steering wheel needs to be removed and put back on where it belongs.
