Question:

When I jack my car up to put my lift kit on it, is alright to hold my 1992 Jeep up with CINDER BLOCKS?

When I jack my car up to put my lift kit on it, is alright to hold my 1992 Jeep up with CINDER BLOCKS 2 in the front and 2 in the back while I work on it?? I just don‘t want to waste the money for jack stands when I most likely will not use them again.

Answer:

Its a common problem. I contacted my insurance and they payed the first time when my sofa got burned to a crisp. Now its happened recently, about two weeks ago and like you, they refused to pay once my TV turned to ashes. :( My advice is to get real. MegzieB :)
As everyone has suggested, they are not ideal jackstands. If you do use them, make sure you orient them with the holes going up and down (like they would be in a wall). They may be strong enough to hold up a house when set right, but if you try to use them on their sides (i.e. with the holes running parrallel to the ground), they will collapse. Make sure they are as level as possible and not in soft ground where they could sink. You should put some kind of wood block (even chunks of 2x4 or plywood) between the cinder blocks and your Jeep for grip. The metal of your Jeep may try to slide on the concrete of the block. You want something between them that they both can bite into. Once you get it all set up, before you take off your tires, check the stability of your rig by pushing pulling and jumping up and down on it. Try to knock it down. If it's going to fall, you want it to fall now before you are under it. Good luck, be careful (and just borrow some jackstands!)
Like the others say, cinder blocks are somewhat unreliable to support a vehicle if you are going to be working under it. You really should use something better. You may be able to rent them for cheap or buy them then resell them afterwards. If you insist on using them, span a block of wood across the cinder block so the vehicle is not resting directly on a pressure point. This way the load is distributed further. You can even consider using 2 sets of these just to be safe.
Cinder Blocks are dangerous and more people have been hurt and killed from using them under cars. A set of Jack Stands designed to support your car will only cost you about $19. If you have a Harbor Freight outlet near you then go there. You can get 2,5,and 10 ton Stands. If you ever change your own oil, or rotate tires or anything you will be glad you bought some jack stands.
yeah this one time my dragon burned down my door. just like give her mints or something. hahahha XD
