Question:

When to replace carbon monoxide detectors?

Does anyone know when to replace your carbon monoxide detector? I bought mine in 2003 when I purchased my 1st home. We just turned on the heat this week It got me thinking if its time to replace it or not?

Answer:

Legally they can'thowever in the real world they can and will. Employers are afraid you'll sue them, too.
NO. The extinguisher should be hydrostaticly tested every 5 years and inspected annually by a qualified professional per NFPA 5 Standard on Portable Fire Extinguishers. You should never attempt to recharge any type of extinguisher yourself. Catastrophic failure could occur. Fire extinguishers need to be properly inspected and checked after every use.
