I bought an external hard drive an year ago (Seagate freeagent 500gb, 7200rpm) and it stopped working. I opened up the case, tried to find a problem if the wire got pulled out or something but can't find a problem.
Connect a SATA data cable to the connector on the left in that photo, and connect a SATA power cable from your computer's power supply to the wide connector on the right. Those are standard desktop HDD connectors on that drive.
the superb way could be to connect it as an inner force utilising the procedures defined aboce. in case you insist on making it an exterior force get an exterior case, ideally from aluminum and a fan, because the case enviorment is amazingly diverse to that of the computer case, a lot tighter and hotter which will reason maximum drives to die interior weeks of continuous use. make positive no longer to bypass it at the same time as that is operating and to instruct it off once you're executed with it. i considered exterior drives die as low as 2 weeks after purchase by way of impropper use
