Which is better: laminated flooring or engineered timber flooring?
I can spot fake laminated a mile away, and so can others. Engineered wood floors look like real wood, because it is. Keep in mind- neither can be refinished.
laminated flooring is cardboard that has a pattern printed on top of it. engineered timber is real wood.
In my opinion timber flooring is the best option. Solid wood flooring is milled from a single piece of timber that is kiln or air dried before sawing. Depending on the desired look of the floor, the timber can be cut in three ways: flat sawn, quarter sawn, and rift sawn. The timber is cut to the desired dimensions and either packed unfinished for a site-finished installation or finished at the factory. The moisture content at time of manufacturing is carefully controlled to ensure the product doesn't warp during transport and storage. With hardwood flooring you are not stuck with a certain color or shade because they have different natural patterns, with no two hardwood floors being exactly alike. This type of flooring is tough, strong, and even if you put or drop something heavy on the floor, you do not have to worry about it getting dented or scratched.
Which is better for your needs? If you have an active life style w/kids etc a good laminate may be better for you . I don t mean the cheap stuff a good laminate. If your more laid back and maybe no kids, I good engineered wood floor may be better. If your doing the area where kids don t go, such as a formal dining room or your own bed room then a engineered wood will look better. As far as one being better than another a good quality laminate beats out a engineered wood in durability. A cheap one isn t worth the material its printed on.I put in a good quality Allock laminate for my sister 5 years ago and you couldn t tell it from a wood floor and w/ 4 active kids and a dog, it looks like I put it in yesterday.
