I keep find these wads of long hair at the edge of my office chair fabric seat. It is so disgusting. Why do so many hairs gather in that spot?

You slide down the chair to get off or while you're working. Your hair falls out.. or somebody else's hair does, and they land onto the chair into the seat. You somehow manage to get them underneath your butt and you slide down the chair and this sweeps all the hairs togehter into clumps at the edge of the chair.
