Not anymore. A lot of kids in my high school ring it all the time, which is annoying, considering the fact that it's disruptive and a waste of time and effort. I mean, why act tough and then run away to avoid getting caught? I'd only be worried if the fire was actually near my class.
It does shut off and you are stuck. Use the phone in it to call for help.
During a fire alarm - all elevators in the building return to the lobby level and the doors open. You would not be trapped unless the elevator loses power. During a fire alarm only the fire department can operate the elevators - for this they have a special key.
