i have the damper open all the way i have that little sliding thing on the bottom open to create an up draft i make time for the flue to heat up. my house smokes up so much that the smoke detectors go off. Please help me i want to enjoy my fireplace to its full potential.

Only if it gets infected. Cartilage shouldn't be pierced by a gun because the blunt force trauma shatters the cartilage rather than slicing through it and the starter studs that are used are horrible little bacteria traps. But cartilage usually only deforms due to infection after the piercing is done or keloid scars and that sort of stuff. Two years down the road I'm sure you are fine. Don't worry.
probablyI wouldnt worry too much tho. i had a cratilage piercing done about 15 years ago, took it out after 2 months and I can still feel the hole under the skinbut it hasnt changed shape or anything.
