why does my windshield wipers stop in the up position on my 2000 pontiac montana?
My car just started doing this too after a big snowstorm yesterday. Here is something that i read and also what someone at the dealership said to do. You will find a bolt under the last bit of arm, usually where you can bend the wiper back to clean the windscreen. Lift the cover and you will find a nut. remove the nut and pull the wiper off, re-position the wiper arm to the bottom of the winscreen and re-instert the nut. Next time you run your wipers, it should park as per normal. The guy at the dealership said to just tighten the nut. I am going to try this tonight
The wiper regulators on these vans are a nightmare. but what is wrong is underneath the cowling on the passenger side. It is on top of the motor that drives the system. It is a disc shaped object that controls the parking of the wiper arms. Sorry I don't know what the name of the part is but if you call a GM parts counter at a dealership and ask for a windshield wiper parking pawl they will know what you mean. Luckily the part is available separately from the entire assembly. If you have the tools, it isn't a particularly hard job to replace it, but I should warn you that removing the wiper arms on those vans can be very difficult as they are tapered, splined, glued, and almost always corroded. The arm itself is made out of cheap cast metal that snaps surprisingly easy, so you will probably need a wiper arm puller to get them off. Also, when reinstalling the arms, they have to be calibrated so they don't hit each other as they come down, and they don't go off the side of the windshield. Best bet is to take it to the dealership and fork out the money to have it done, because if they break something it's their problem. P.S. I don't mean to offend you, but Venture/Montana vans are money-pits. If I were you I'd get rid of it before something expensive happens. And it will.
The park switch in the wiper motor is bad.this switch shuts off power to the motor when the wipers reach the full down position and the wiper switch has been turned off. If the park switch is bad, the wipers will just stop wherever when you turn them off instead of cycling through to the full down position.
