Why is my data light blinking on my cox cable box?

And if i try to use the remote then it won't work . it says settings menu not available.

it's probably one of two things 1 - it's downloading new firmware from the cable company 2 - it lost it's connection or has a problem receiving the data sources. Perhaps the cable company is experiencing an outage of the interactive media guide (IMG) and is causing this issue. You can pull the plug on it for 60 seconds and that will usually force it to re-establish communications and fix most problems. If you have continued issues, call your cable provider.
