I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 7. All of a sudden my SD/MS/Pro/MMC/XD card reader won't work. All the other problems I've been reading about happened with the upgrade to Windows 7, but mine worked after the upgrade. I upgraded a few weeks ago, have used the SD drive a few times since then, including a couple days ago. Now it won't do anything when I put in the card, the little light next to the drive doesn't light up. I set my folder options to show empty drives and nothing comes up. I uninstalled the driver, it reinstalled when I rebooted the computer, and still nothing happens. What went wrong?
it seems your hardware side has gone faulty suddendly or you are inserting a card that has gone corrupted or unreadable!!! please try your card on other pc 1st or use a usb card reader and read it if it works then its damn sure that your laptop slot of card reader has stopped working !! if card reader slot isnt working go to nearest hp center and try to repair it !! hope this works !!
You probably need to install a driver. Go to HP website and look for the support section then see if they have the driver for your notebook model. Then downloaded. But I would first see and do a system restore to an earlier checkpoint, that may solve the problem.
It could be physically unplugged and/or damaged. If you feel comfortable, open the case up, and find the back of the card reader and just push the connectors in to make sure they are secure. Card readers are simple things and usually don't require custom drivers or anything so it should just work fine if it's plugged in correctly.
