Question:

Wich is better? Cold air intake or Short Ram intake?

Im shopping upgrades for my tiburon and cant decide wich is better between a COLD AIR INTAKE or a SHORT RAM INTAKE. Both seem to be go upgrades but i want the best.THANKS

Answer:

Most cold air intakes are made from cheap tin-like metals with no insulation, stuck in a hot engine compartment, tell me, how is sucking cool air through a hot tube going to help performance? Now if you wrap that pretty shiny metal with an insulator, then you might make something of it. Also, those KN filters you will probably be sticking on it too, really they help with power, but they are a crappy filter. They increase power because they let more air flow, and along with the air, dust particles, say good bye to your bearings in the not so distant future.
Short ram sucks in hot air from your engine bay and your car will lose power in hot weather. Cold air puts your air filter 12 off the ground and puts you in danger of sucking water into your engine and destroying your car. If you put one in don't ever drive through a puddle. Both will give you negligible power gains in a stock tiburon. They will both sound cool and give you a little better throttle response, but I would stay stock.
open the hood inspect the factory air filter, this is the best cold air intake available, that aftermarket sewerpipe with an air filter stuff is crap, and worse, it can mess with the computer, which can lean out your motor, burning it up sooner. you might, notice a difference, if you had a turbo, say between 3,500 rpm, and 5000 rpm, but do you plan to run around town in 3500 rpm to 5000 rpm, probably not, another marketing gimmick is the sooper doooper pooper scooper chip, these are worthless, on some NEW cars, and mostly diesels you can gain some horsepower, but you trade off durability, and longevity, so keep your money in your pocket, if you want more information, the guy to ask is your mechanic. good luck
