Question:

Will the auto body shop have replacement wheels?

I hit a curb last night and I‘m pretty sure I damaged the steel wheel itself on my car (aka it‘s beyond normal flat tire repair). The wheel is OEM (has a wheel cover). If I have to replace the entire wheel, is it likely that the shop will have a replacement? I‘ve always thought that when you changed tires they just replaced the rubber portion of the wheel, not the whole thing. Let me know if I need to add any additional info. Thanks!

Answer:

Not sure, but if they don't just go to the junk yard and find a good replacement off another car of the same model.
If the insurance covers the wheel as in the comp or collision section of your policy then they will pay for the wheel is needed. Chances are the body shop will not have it in stock. The body will either have to get one from a dealer or aftermarket if the wheel is the same as the OEM. The tires may be a different story. There are tires that only a manufacturer uses and if the car has tires on it that are no longer made then the insurance company has to decided what to do. You can not have different tread designs on the same axle if it is a 2 or 4 wheel drive. An all wheel drive must have the same tread design on all 4 wheels. That will most likely be a judgment call on your insurance company.
