I have a 2003 Impala. Last night, I turned the wipers on and the passenger‘s side wiper crossed over and hit the drivers side wiper. Then the drivers side wiper went all the way over to the driver‘s side mirror. When I put them back into place, they work okay for a while and then the same thing happens. What‘s wrong?
If you live in an area with heavy snow, then the wipers may have given up the ghost. By that I mean the spindle that holds the wiper arm in place could have been stripped by moving sticky crud on your windshield. Otherwise, it could be a burned out wiper motor unit. My advice is to take the wiper arms off and inspect inside of them for wear. It it checks out as OK, then consider replacing the wiper motor. Go to your local GM parts dealer for this.
Sounds like some part of the wiper(s) motor assembly is loose, broken, stripped or possibly not on correctly/wrong parts.
