Question:

would you need to change the bottom bracket for changing cranks?

i want to change my truvativs for a set of raceface would i need to switch the bottom bracket to?

Answer:

Only if it has a different interface.
Only if you are changing the BB type, from say an ISIS to a X-type. However if you are buying a new crank set it would be a good time to also change the BB. But as long as you stay with the same spline type you will have no problems.
If your crank arms fit on the bottom brackets axles than no you don't need to!! You should have the bottom bracket that goes with the crankset though, but you can get away without it.
One-piece Ashtabula cranks are as strong as any crank can be. They're not light, but they don't typically break or wear out. I see no point in trying to replace it, even if you did have money burning a hole in your boardshorts. Your bike won't become significantly lighter, but your piggy bank will. Furthermore, one-piece cranks are sometimes used with press-in bearing cups in unthreaded bottom bracket shells. I suspect this might be the case with your Tundra. To use a standard, threaded bottom bracket cartridge, you'd need to use one of those funky adaptors (more money). If you want to keep your Huffy on the road, just address the problems. You could service the bottom bracket bearings if the cranks feel rough. Odds are, the bearings could probably use a cleaning and proper greasing/adjustment. If your wheel hubs have standard bearings, you could open them up and service those as well if you're feeling adventurous. What about greasing the seatpost or quill stem? What about checking the miscellaneous bolts for greased threads and proper torque? These are things you can do that don't cost any money, only an investment in your time and patience. These are also the things that help keep cheapo bikes rideable a bit longer as well as help you learn a bit more about bike mechanics.
It depends. If you're setting up some ISIS cranks then you can keep your bottom bracket most likely. The vast majority of bb's will use the 113mm length. If you're getting a downhill/single ring crank then you may need to use the 118mm bb for proper chainline. If you happen to be running the Howitzer bb with your Truvativs now, then you'll definitely need a new standard ISIS for the Race Face if that's what you're getting. If you have an external bottom bracket now and you're switching to Race Face then yes, you'll need a new one. Truvativ uses their proprietary GXP and the bearings are different sizes for left/right. Race Face, Shimano, FSA, etc. all use the same external bb style, so any one of those brands (and several others) will work with your new Race Face cranks. I'd really recommend the Race Face bottom bracketsmuch better seals and bearings compared to the rest. That, or one of the new Chris King units if you have some money to splurge. Hope this helps.if you have more questions just post up again. :o)
